How To Copy Windows Xp From One Computer To Another
It depends on what kind of "XP disk" you lot have. If XP came pre-installed when you bought your quondam computer, you can't legally transfer Windows to another computer.

If you mean this -->
that won't assistance you lot at all ... it'south only the service pack (i.eastward., the update), and not an installation CD. The key is the language that's on the left side of the higher up image: "For Windows XP Home Edition, Professional, Media Centre Edition, and Tablet PC Edition." That is, you lot can utilize the above CD to update any of the different editions of Windows XP ... merely you tin't utilize it to install anything.
Y'all demand a CD that says something like "Windows XP Home (or Professional) INCLUDES SP2," like this -->
Only, as I wrote earlier, if your Windows was pre-installed, the license key on the sticker on your quondam computer is non valid for a reinstall on a new computer (the image to a higher place is just such an OEM CD).
Of course, if you accept a CD similar to the 2nd one above that was purchased retail (then it doesn't take the caveat "For distribution only with a new PC"), then you can use information technology to practise a repair install on your new computer with the old hard drive. See http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
Assuming that the onetime difficult bulldoze now has XP with SP3, the get-go affair you'll have to do is slipstream sp3 together with your XP sp2 install CD. Then do a repair install. Then y'all'll probably have to manually update IE to version 8 and so (perhaps) Windows Update will give you the rest of the mail-sp3 updates. If you go every bit far every bit a successful repair install with sp3 but can't get Window Update to work after that, ask a question in the Windows Update forum, being sure to give specifics virtually the current state of your organization and the complete text of whatever mistake message.
